DISCONNECT
36" x 48"
Oil and Gesso on Canvas

Now showing at SOBO Gallery in Winter Garden, FL.

My new work involves continued exploration, where emotion is the main protagonist, rather than the storytelling that characterized the Shadow series. It focuses on the push-and-pull between dissociation and deep need for connection. My aim is to portray the epidemic of distraction and avoidance that we are experiencing, investigating why being present can feel like an insurmountable challenge.

This painting started by trying to replicate an emotion through abstract work, not honoring the process by forcing a movement through a mind-lead process. When that was not working, I decided to paint the distance between by desire to reconnect and the actual connection . The white light is inspiration and surrender, dimed and separate from the intense red of cerebral desire, an intensity that seems to build up and overtake. The chest is where I felt it, and the blue hue symbolizes a different dimension that is not solely physical.
